The cast of Modern Family is showing their support for each other, literally.

Since the six lead actors in the cast of ABC’s Modern Family share equal screen time, they faced a dilemma over who would be submitted for a lead actor or actress Emmy award and who would be considered in the supporting actor/actress categories.

Ed O’Neill, who is the actor with the greatest name recognition and plays the patriarch on the show, put an end to debate when he decided to submit himself in the supporting category. Reportedly, O’Neill stepped up because he felt that nobody is bigger than anybody else in the show which is a true ensemble.

The rest of the cast followed suit so now we just have to wait and see which of the show’s leads, if any, get the nominations. Sofia Vergara and Julie Bowen seem like sure bets for supporting actress nominations, and maybe all four of the guys- O’Neill, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet- will be nominated, which would be a first in Emmy history.
